“Camp Sunshine helped me grow as a person. It helped me to learn to appreciate others for their differences and to not take moments for granted. Being a part of Camp Sunshine has also helped me realize what I want to do for my career, help children who are battling cancer.” - Ascher Shostak
Since 1992, Camp Sunshine has been awarding scholarships to alumni attending a college, university, or technical school. This year, 34 very deserving students received a Camp Sunshine scholarship, raising our total number of scholarships awarded to 380 over the past 31 years.
This year’s scholars have all participated in Camp Sunshine programs. They come from regions throughout Georgia – and beyond. They will be attending 24 different colleges, universities, and technical schools in 11 different states. They will study nursing, medicine, child-life, theater, education, social work, business, occupational therapy, accounting, and more. Common among all these students is their desire – their drive – to give back to others.
In their cancer journey, they have found the strength and resilience to not only survive childhood cancer, many overcoming great odds, but to thrive. As we celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, their inspiring stories remind us of the power of community that can bring hope and healing. We are proud to support them on their continued journey and are confident they will have an enormous impact on the communities they serve!
The Sally J. Hale Scholarship Fund at Camp Sunshine supports former campers who have demonstrated a commitment to completing their education by attending a college or technical school.
